A complete Compressed Air solution for new build factory

Precision Pneumatics has worked alongside one of the United Kingdom’s leading manufacturers of office furniture to consolidate and future-proof their operations.

Our customer has built a brand new, multi-million-pound manufacturing facility in Knowsley which includes a complete compressed air solution provided by Precision Pneumatics. This has allowed the client to have their head office, showroom and main manufacturing facility on a single site, where previously they had operated from four locations.

A world-class manufacturing facility requires a compressed air system which provides the business with the air it requires, allows for future development and is installed to the highest standards of workmanship.

The main compressor – an Atlas Copco GA110VSD+ – is in a dedicated, temperature-controlled compressor house which is heated during the winter and has been louvered, allowing cool air to flow during the summer months. The compressor house is ducted to ensure that the temperature within the compressor house is regulated at all times.

The new compressor provides the customer with a significant increase in Free Air Delivery compared with the equipment it replaced whilst achieving significantly reduced lifecycle costs thanks to Atlas Copco’s industry-leading Variable Speed Drive technology.

The compressed air passes around the factory through a ring main made from AIRnet, Atlas Copco’s best-in-class lightweight aluminium piping system. Using AIRnet offered a number of advantages for the customer, including:

  • The installation could be completed more quickly than would have been possible had galvanised steel been used and without welding, gluing or crimping.
  • The lightweight pipework was held in place using steel cables suspended from the ceiling. This reduced both the amount of time required for the installation and the overall cost of the project.
  • The installation has been completed with the customer’s future development plans in mind, making it easy for the customer to deploy additional equipment as and when required.

In addition, the unobtrusive and high-quality finish to the pipework installation makes future maintenance of the compressed air system easier, whilst providing an aesthetically pleasing environment within the factory.

Chris Parry, Installations Manager for Precision Pneumatics, commented “This project is a perfect example of how we work with our customers to achieve the best possible results. The new factory provides improved energy-efficiency and allows the client to add extra air tools and machinery if required, through the installation of additional drops. In addition, the outstanding workmanship of our Installations Team has provided a very impressive ring main and pipework system.”
